Beautifully written but deeply sad and traumatic, which was not what I was expecting. I’ve loved a lot of parts of this book but the level of trauma written into this book paired with the descriptions… It’s been a lot and I’ve been having to take breaks. I didn’t hear about any of this when seeing this book be recommended. Comparable to A Little Life in terms of intense on-page trauma. Check triggers.

Really enjoying this book so far - however, I’ve heard so much praise and I can see why, it’s very beautifully written and I’ve heard that it’s not a happy story however I’ve heard nothing of the insanely graphic chapter of a very sensitive topic that I just read. If I could have skipped over it completely I would have (have I known). :/
