I'm actually reading the original version from 1930 and it's shocking Nancy's father gives her his gun. She takes it with her and at the Mansion sleeps with it under her pillow and carries it around the house as self defense.

I want to read all 34 of the Original versions. Got to see how different they are from the later ones!!
