‘These tycoons,’ said the latter, bitterly, ‘can’t understand first principles.’ He delivered a final kick to the lopsided Folly. ‘If the foundations are rotten – everything’s rotten.’

‘It is profound what you say there,’ said Poirot. ‘Yes, it is profound.’

‘… Where would it have ended?’

‘With a murderer it does not end,’ said Poirot.

‘Have you ever reflected, Madame, on the enormous part that Hearsay plays in life. “Mr. A said,” “Mrs. B. told us.” “Miss C. explained why –” and so on. And if the known facts seem to fit with what we have been told, then we never question them. There are so many things that do not concern us, and so we do not bother to uncover the actual facts.’

It's a novella that she later rewrote to make it a full novel, Dead Man's Folly :-). This is the last novel/short story collection of hers that I know of that I haven't read! It's hard to keep track of all of the short story collections, so I may have missed some; but years ago, I made a list of her fiction as best I could, and this is the last on the (very long) list!😭 (So, yes, obviously, I love her too🤣)

Many of my favorites of her mysteries are Miss Marple books and standalones that aren't connected to any others! But I love so many of her books. Poirot is fabulous, naturally. The Thirteen Problems is one of her short story collections that is just 😍😍😍

Generally speaking, I don't prefer short stories, but man, I enjoy those 🙃
