Well, that didn’t take much guessing. I took a long break from this book, forgot most of the plot, and still figured out for sure whodunit because of the Vampyre Ballet. It’s always the one you know like nothing about because Childs never bothers to give actual clues or properly develop characters.

Possible spoiler:

“She was still feeling down and a little manipulated. As if the buzz clue had been intended to send her scurrying off on a thankless errand.”

Huh, almost like you took the word “buzz,” and ran with its most obscure relation. Could be a B&B, could be an apiary, could be…a sawmill because “buzz saw?” Whatever. I also hate the trope of killers calling in to leave clues. So dumb.

Trying to finish this book because I’m not sure I want to pick up any more of her books for at least a little while.

Insufferable. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Theodosia is a compulsive liar, and a major problem. You promise not to tell anyone, then boom! You blab. She judges Delaine for being a gossip, but Theodosia just can’t seem to help herself spreading rumors and information herself. She’s thoroughly obnoxious at this point. I’m surprised Riley is even still with her.

My goodness, she’s insufferable. I might have to go back to the old books in the series to see if she’s any different because what the author seems to think is “tough girl” material is actually excruciatingly frustrating to read.

Maybe this series would make more sense if it was a documentary of Theodosia’s gradual descent from amateur detective and crime-solver to immature law-breaker, concealer of evidence, and liar to police and witnesses.
