Assassin's Quest ups the pace significantly. Robin Hobb's storytelling style adds myriad details sprinkled throughout the story and it's easy to miss.
I struggle with the fact that Fitz's character development is slight after all the drama and pain he has experienced and witnessed. Every chapter contains hurdles Fitz must overcome or endure but he never appears to learn or grow from his experience.

There is no character development for Fitz! Pacing and repetition does not makeup for the monotone storytelling. Every chapter and paragraph is fulled with remorse and grieving.
