I actually had to go back and read it twice. I like to feel a though I know more than anyone about the importance of self love, mind and body. But hooks talks about how a lot of us woman will find ourselves conditioned to certain beliefs, often loosing ourselves for the sake of love. You’ll often find that most women won’t truly grasp the true concept of love until your mid forties.

Love versus Dominance. The idea that woman are more inherently nurturing than men alone is constantly reinforcing the patriarchy. I mean as women who are “natural caretakers” you’d imagine the boys that these women raise would grow up to be a natural nurturer and provider, but you’d be wrong.
Learning to love is so many things. It’s not enough to want it. You have to be equals in one another’s eyes.

I feel like the cast of SLOMW needs to read chapter five lol. I really love the way Bell Hooks really spends time going into detail about feminism only interests men in the aspect of sexual liberation, but not in the sense of equal rights. It can feel like the price of being liberated, powerful, and outspoken can cost you “love” by societies standards.
Love and Domination cannot coexist.

Chapter one through four has been an interesting conversation about love, how women should love, what they should love and prioritize, among other things. It discusses the feminist movement, and how despite how liberating and freeing it was for women, it still felt as though it came with restrictions and rules.
