Maybe it’s that I’m not in the same or right frame of mind as I was while reading the first novel, which I adored, but I’m let down with this second novel so far. There feels to be inconsistency in Tara’s prose, perhaps the author’s own prose, or possibly the translation. Or maybe that’s the point? Surely Tara is changing. The remaining novels have different translators, which I will read, so we’ll see!
