Regarding the first Passover:

“A strange nation Israel would be, for a ‘mixed multitude’ (12:38) was leaving [Egypt]. In time Phineas, a black African, would be counted a son of Aharon. Caleb, a Kenizzite, a Canaanite migrant to Egypt, entered the promised land. Israel is not an ethnic group. It is all the people who are faithful to Yahweh, and the sign of faithfulness was the passover” (95).

Beautiful.
