Can you imagine being a shopkeeper with a twinkle in his eye, fairly intelligent, and John Steinbeck walks in and tries to pitch you on the concept of scapegoats as if it were new. And then is like no one’s a man anymore and you’re like yeah John Steinbeck for sure. I’m actually loving this book it’s just less original than I’m used to
