This part of the book makes me realize how strong people have to be to get over the death of a family member, especially a parent. They discovered the man who hit the father, Driss, and he is struggling with guilt and legal issues regarding his actions. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't eventually forgive him because it was a Hit-and-Run. I also feel bad for Driss's family as they face bias because of their race.

From pages 140-180, I find it interesting that Erica meets Jeremy, an Iraq War veteran struggling with PTSD. This is striking because Jeremy fought for America, whereas Erica seeks justice from America for Driss. Jeremy is isolated from years immersed in the military. The novel shows a potential romance between the two, illustrating the complexities of cross-cultural relationships.

As im reading, I am getting pretty frustrated, mainly because of how slow this investigation of Driss is going. He is receiving no justice, which is unfair and disappointing. I could make a connection with this book and my history class, where it touches on the point of cultural misunderstandings. As Aisha is grieving and dealing with family issues, I wonder if she finds a way to bounce back and "get back" for Driss.

I can tell that this book will be about identity, race, and the American Experience, especially when your family isn't from the U.S. There are more people being involved in the investigation, like Jeremy. He was a classmate of Tariq, who is now a police officer in the case of Driss's Death. I recently found out that Driss's daughter is going through a stage of her identity, and this is probably because she is queer.

My eyes widened quickly as the first thing is " My Father was killed on a spring night four years ago". This book is very interesting, and I am looking forward to it because it's about the hit-and-run death of Nora's father. I know that something significant has happened, and it's affecting the entire Guerraoui family. I am curious about how they figure out the mystery of the guy who killed Driss, who is her father.
