He’s already gone, her tired, sluggish brain begged her heart to understand, but her heart couldn’t accept it yet.

I’m still waiting for you to do something stupid, he whispered in her mind.
“I was stupid all along,” she wept, but he couldn’t hear her now.
Not where he was.

She could reach out to Hart, but he was the one who had lied. He was the one who needed to explain himself. If he wasn’t willing to swallow his pride and come after her, he didn’t deserve her.

“I didn’t mean to lie,” he wailed into his palms, but she pulled his hands away from his face.
“Yes, you did! You meant it! Lies don’t happen by accident. A lie is a deliberate choice.”
“Mercy, please, I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t want your apologies. And you know what? I don’t want you.”
