this is quite a long book, and I'm about halfway through it now. At first it's kind of boring, what seems to be a buildup to what is yet to come. Then the main character gets to an island off Greece, and it gets nuts, as if he is dreaming or on drugs. That, too, seems to have been a buildup.

THE MAGUS is a mystery because the magus is a mystery. It looks like this is what all the buildup was for.
