I really loved the fact that the story was open to different interpretations; its vagueness and ambiguity are some of the reasons why I love it so much. I’m excited to read more by the author, but I’m not in a hurry to do so.

Finished the afterword too. It was very enlightening to know more about the author. Much to think about.

I’ve just read the foreword and now I have many authors, books, and films to check out.

It could be taken metaphorically but also literally. The ending could be seen differently if the fact of him being a predator who kidnaps and kills girls is taken into account. I loved the writing, I really dead. I still don’t understand his fascination with the indris (singing lemurs), but I have a feeling that it might be due to something morbid. I just can’t put my finger on it yet.

I keep thinking about the court scene, what if he was the accused not just a witness. They said that a girl was kidnapped and possibly murdered. What if he was a serial predator and killer? It fits his preference and what we’ve seen of him so far. And there’s also this theory that he, and the warden are essentially the same person. And it could be taken as far as saying that the husband too is grouped into him.

I loved this! While it was a very sickening read, I really did enjoy the surrealist and dreamlike quality of the story. & the unreliable, sadistic, psychotic, possibly mad and obsessive narrator made all the more interesting. I wonder if the “catastrophe” as the narrator refers to it is even real, or maybe it’s just another part of his fractured mind created to give him a sense of urgency an excuse of some kind
