Ok sometimes this kid sounds like a kid and sometimes a college professor. It makes it hard to believe his character. It won Oprah’s heart & won the Pulitzer so what am I missing?

Pg 9 “But not farmers proper”. What child thinks like that?

I don’t read this author because I never know wtf she’s talking about. I always need a dictionary close by to get through one page.

I figured here’s an uneducated child this should work.
