So apropos as I read this. There is so much evil daily. But evil is more than a single person, it's also the result. It's the silent and invisible atmosphere that chokes. And like the sorcerers and witches in this book, I feel as if I'm forgetting the true names of things and how to speak meaningfully. Or as if there is no way to speak meaningfully about anything, because all things have forgotten their meaning.

I can see why this book is often described as the best of the first trilogy. For me personally, The Tombs of Atuan dealt with themes that were meaningful to me, so that will always be my favorite I think. But the journey in this book has been engaging, and the dialogue is just so rich and meaningful. "There is a certain bleakness in finding hope where one expected certainty." That's a standout line for me.
