“While Christianity has been blamed as a major cause of colonisation, it has not however sustained or instigated colonisation” … ??? Crazy that the author believes this to be true. Not enough repentance happening in this book imo

“The hope for New Zealand is that every ethnicity at home in New Zealand would one day be able to authentically say to a degree that they are indigenous” WHAT you have absolutely lost me, and on the last page too. Whose hope is this?? Is it just me or is this a crazy thing to say? I wanted to enjoy this book or at least agree on some things, but alas. Not enough genuine critique of Christianity’s impact in NZ

I think I have too many negative thoughts about Christianity to give this book a fair reading! I am liking the kōrero about te ao Māori and spirituality/Christianity though, and agree with the author that the NZ Church at large is western as hell and so far removed from the whenua it resides on.

Really unsure how I am finding this book. Just read a chapter v much defending Henry Williams and some of the early missions in Aotearoa. I think it’s probably true to say that not all missionaries were bad people, but I am not sure I’m on board the waka re the reframing of missionaries as SJWs? The multiplicity of humans is confusing.
