That takes care of the first story - a decent intro to what's on offer, but even the text at the end of the tale suggests better is yet to come: 'Such is the story of "The Spaniards", Hammersmith, and it has been given the first place in this series because, although it may not be of so strange a nature as some that will follow it...'. I didn't want the weirdest story first, anyway. Good start.

One story left. It has been a fun collection, though a few stories didn’t age that great. Most of them didn’t have those issues, which, in stuff from the 1890s designed to unsettle, is actually kind of impressive. Sort of.

Enjoying these creepy yarns. 'The Story of the Grey House' - the one I just read - gave me the frights.

3 stories done - 9 more to go. And I think this is gonna be a lot of fun, overall. I would like Flaxman Low himself to become more of a fully fleshed-out character as his lively investigations continue, but at least the scary ghosts and creatures know how to cause a cool, creepy tale.
