Skipping from 1998-2005 is an interesting choice. You’re telling me there were no major events photographed in that time that were definitive to American history? None at all?

Also interesting that the photo descriptions are all the way at the back!! That way I get to form my own context and assumptions before finding them out.

Is it uniquely American to think of everything pre-1900s as “distant” history? Is it because that’s the dawn of photography? Is it because it’s several generations removed?

“Fort Snelling, Minnesota 1864” speaks volumes. It looks like a painting more than anything else.
