On my last story. This has been excellent. Only “Encounters on a dark night” (Yamiyo, 1894) was a little off due to how it was serialized and some abruptness between episodes.

This is a great biography with sections if her diary and 9 translated short stories.

Chapter 4, The Yoshiwara, covers Ichiyō’s mature writing and the influence of Ihara Saikaku (1642-93) on her style.
