I had no idea it had magical realism aspects in it and I was definitely surprised, but by reading half-ish of the book I'm pretty sure Shahrnush Parsipur added it as a way to cope, or to escape a reality that’s too rigid and unforgiving. Definitely such an interesting book so far!
