The realization of how much love surrounds Luke and Henri in the moments of their greatest agony has me feeling raw. I've always wondered, during times of suffering like this, how did enslaved people not take their lives?
How did they keep going. I think this book illustrates better than any other historical fiction the ways in which love sustained people.
