I still dobry quite understand omegaverse - especially male omegas who can get pregnant. You could just replace them with women and absolutely nothing about the story or the dynamics would change. In fact you would save yourself the headache of justifying how mpreg works :D weird. Maybe I’ll get used go it. Idk. Rn it feels like the author wants to write a female character but for some reason doesn’t like women

It speaks about the kind of things I read when I’m pleasantly surprised the noncon didn’t happen between the lead and the love interest lol. I also like how the trauma after SA isn’t just brushed off

I had this book on my Kindle - the sample only - but the page doesn’t work (so I can’t buy it) and it also disappeared from the publisher’s website, wtf? Did they lose the license or something?

Nel i think omegaverse being a fantasy allows to explore very different dynamics which is not possible with just regular mm. thats true that some authors do write omegas as women more or less but thats on the author not on the genre itself. u just need to search for more interesting works maybe by trans authors too idk since trans men can get pregnant and that doesnt make them women.

terka Yeah :( the lack of exploration kinda disappoints me. An alpha being attracted to alphas instead of omegas is the same as a gay man coming out, many of the omegas flat out fulfil the woman’s role - that’s my main complaint about Fallen Merman btw, there’s literally no female characters… just switch the omega for a woman and you have a regular romance novel. But maybe I was just unlucky with my pics. I really like the pheromone stuff tho! As for trans men - I also thought of that, some author bend logic backwards to make the men pregnant while in real life we have perfectly logical reasons for men getting pregnant… like you don’t have to invent a virus that changed the genetics of the world to just explain something that already DOES happen irl :D

terka (Do you have any recs btw?)

Nel omegaverse also stems from the supernaturals fandom and originally it had to do with wolf shifters and their dynamics. maybe u could try reading those books? tj klune has a very popular omegaverse series - i havent read them myself but people love them.

message 6: by Nel (new)

Nel or maybe its just wolf shifters and not omegaverse lol idk

Nel cant say i have any specific recs its been a while since ive read any but id suggest to sample different books and see if something stands out for u. it also might just be that its not ur genre which is valid too. hope u do find a book that sticks with u though. :*

terka Thanks for the advice! I’m currently reading three omegaverse things (that so far seem very heteronormative) so my experience with the genre is very limited. I’ll try some more exploring. Maybe it just isn’t for me D:

Nel from what i understand ur reading korean novels?

message 10: by Nel (new)

Nel if u need more recs u could google 'best omegaverse mm reddit' and see whats people saying on mm_romance subreddit

terka Two korean one chinese right now :) I’ll do some googling later. But thinking more about it the genre might just not be for me, I like the pheromones, rut and heat… but couldn’t care less about pregnancy xD babies are cock blocks :D

iayal totally agree with everything you said about the omegaverse! it's basically the same reasons why i'm not fond of the genre myself.

i liked kiss me if you can by the same author who wrote what you're reading right now - i read the manhwa and then, the novel. it was alpha x omega but, the roles were reversed in personality for the omegaverse traditional gender roles which i liked. it felt less like an omegaverse and more like, a proper mlm romance. it's nothing HUGE though, more like an entertaining slop. also, i can get why you wouldn't like this novel specifically - they featured as a side couple in what i read and they seemed very... uninteresting (y/n x ceo).

terka Ahhh I really want to read “kiss me if you can”! But I’ve read somewhere the reading order is that “kiss me liar” goes first. Plus I have a good translation of kiss me liar but a rather wonky translation of Kiss me if you can :( but I want to read it!
Also, omfg the y/n+ CEO is SO ACCURATE!! :D i will continue reading this, there has been SA very early on and the MC is experiencing panic attacks and it’s super interesting and not just brushed off so while I have some complaints I will continue with this. But I can’t wait to read about Josh… he should appear in this too, as far as I know (his sister Emma is the MC’s close coworker)

the reading order thing makes sense tbh, i just read kiss me if you can randomly and later on, i looked at the verse's other works and they really did not interest me. i don't think you need to to read the other works but, there are a few references that would've made more sense for me if i did. the novel translation was pretty bad though, i agree.

that does sound interesting! im glad to hear there's actually good things about it - first appearances-wise, it seemed pretty stereotypical so, i wasn't interested. josh is a very likeable character (and i liked how he wasn't a stereotypical "omega") so, i hope you like him too.
