Recommendation on where to start with Berry?

I get asked that all the time and with Berry it can be tricky because he didn’t write the books chronologically and several are anthologies of short stories that often overlap between a few books. “Nathan Coulter” was one of my first and would start introducing you to Port William. “A World Lost” is more narrow in the characters involved but has more depth. I think the key with Berry is to read several. Most are short and the more you read the more you’ll appreciate his prose and his insights; his understanding of place and belonging. “Jayber Crow” is the most well-received, but wait till you know Port William. I love Berry.
