i started reading this because i wanted to read more local arizonan authors. it is pretty propulsive in the usual way of these gangster books but no more than that thus far, engages in a lot of tiresome mystification about the cartels (which, to be clear, i know less than nothing about, but the writing is still tiresome), maybe his other stuff is better
