Tina, I absolutely agree with you!! A three star rating for me means that I liked the book, as it had some really good aspects and moments I enjoyed. However, I wouldn’t say that I loved the book enough to call it one of my favorites.

I completely agree with this, but I recently changed my rating system to follow what most of GR seems to follow. On that scale (and I’ve heard from my author friend), anything less than a 4 is considered subpar. It means a loss of nuance for me— I’ve bumped my regular 3 stars to 4 stars because I don’t want people to think a book is bad, and now there’s no middle between “I liked it” and “I loved it.” It’s a weird system for sure.

Yes, I for sure can see that on Goodreads. The 3's are always (or almost always) a 4. It's unfortunate.

3 stars is pretty decent. I give enough of those and would happily read another book by the author.
