a long-term goal i had was to read some kind of scientific/mathematical book, and for the longest time i just could not get around to doing it. so i’m very glad i picked this book up because it’s very different to what i usually read, and surprisingly dense, but that makes it more fun! even within the bounds of a fictional story i’m learning so much about science! and physics!!! very grateful

there is something about this book that really wrenches at your heart with its depth and substance—like a river that looks beautiful and blue and sparkly on the surface, but if you pay attention, you can see the weeds swaying below, and a kind of fathomless dark. it’s so subtle that you don’t always notice it; the immediate beauty is so overwhelming that its hidden substance stays modest. but it’s there.
