I think I’m going to put this book down for now. The writing is great, and I enjoy seeing Gus and Woodrow as 18 and 19 year old young Rangers. But I am just not enjoying the savagery of the Indians and the raw violence of the journey to New Mexico. Maybe it’s just not the right time for me to read this, but I’m also not sure if I will try it again. I still love Lonesome Dove so much.

Planning to read the series this time and decided to read them in chronological order instead of publication order. In this prequel Gus and Woodrow are new young Texas Rangers.
