By the early 20th century there were numerous theories of imperialism, differences regarding both its political-economic foundation and its political and strategic implications. Differences in theories of imperialism expressed very important overall political differences. The debate was not simply left vs centre vs right, each camp contained different theories and theories partially reached over to other camps.
