Despite the title, it's easy to argue Pam Ayres collection doesn't contain a single poem. What it does have, however, is a good selection of light verse, mostly rather skilfully wrought.

Because light verse employs lyrical poetic devices, but without amplifying or generating the subtext that those devices are used for in poetry, even the tiniest flaw in structure sticks out like a sore thumb.
