Is it Good?! I almost bought it cause it was soooo pretty

I love the sprayed edges on this book. It’s one of my favourites on my shelf for sure.

I’ll admit, the first few chapters of this book weren’t gripping in any way, and I wasn’t enjoying it. It just felt like slogging through cookie cutter Game of Thronsey inspired stuff, and I was actually debating to swap it out for something else in my pile. But it’s gotten much better beyond page 100, and so I’m enjoying it. :) There are definitely things in the writing that I don’t like though. I’m noticing a lot of things like word repetition, short descriptors, along with some odd formatting peeves of mine, like unnecessarily short paragraphs.

Once I’m done Shield, I’ll probably read Rites as I have that one too. But it depends if Shield keeps the momentum going or not. Reviewers (that I trust) say it becomes like 5 star at 300+ pages. Right now, I’d say it started out at a 2, and is now somewhere around mid-three, low-four.
