‘We hunger for significance that lasts.’
Our individualistic society tells us identity is something we achieve and create for ourselves through vocation, wealth, relationships, ethnicity, sexual orientation or political affiliation.

As the Church our identity is encountered. ‘we’ve been named God’s treasured possessions. Abiding in His gaze is how we approach the full, lasting glory of that identity.’

As a society we don’t trust authority or institutions anymore, so we also don’t trust or are leaving the Church. Instead we’ve replaced a need for the Church with having faith in ourselves, social media convincing us we are always the victim or finding identity in political parties.
Sad that this is our reality. Interesting discussions from this book.
