This story may be about Johann and Marie, but it’s also about war. While this is WWII and it took place on the Eastern front (Russia), many of the war scenes reminded me of All Quiet on the Western Front and 1917. Do not become emotionally invested in the characters, because you will be left heartbroken. But thats the unfortunate reality of war.

Why does this book have to be so emotional 😭 the war depictions in this…I can only imagine what the soldiers went through in WWII on both sides.
