The beginning of chapters 3 is interesting. Claims of Muslim sophisticated culture during the medieval period, from ship design, build, and navigation, to mathematics and medicine, were due to conquered populations and dhimmi culture (conquered non-Muslims living in a Muslim dominated society), whose customs were appropriated and claimed as having Muslim origin.
