Just read Lenore and I wonder if he wrote this before or after The Raven. It’s only four stanzas but the rhyme scheme, internal rhyme, and the way the last lines of the first three stanzas are repeated is reminiscent of The Raven. It will make more sense for him to have written this before.

Finished The Fall of the House of Usher. It’s the best Poe story I’ve read so far. It’s the right length or maybe it can stand to be a bit shorter. All the Poeisms are there but the story continues a bit after the DUN DUN DUN. There’s quite a few similarities to a Tell Tale Heart. I’m not sure which story he wrote first. Next up is MS. Found in a Bottle.

Finished the Oval Portrait. It follows the same formula as Metzengerstein and The Masque of the Red Death: gothic descriptions of a building, enter character, enter symbolic thingie, creepy stuff happens, THE END. I liked this a bit more since it was clear what was going on so the end didn’t seem as silly. It also reminded me of The Portrait of Dorian Gray. Did Oscar Wilde read this? Hmm.

Which story should I read first? I’ll start with one I’ve never read or heard of. Hmm. The Oval Portrait. Page 201. Let’s go!
