In 1896, he and Nina lived in one room above the cafeteria of the College Settlement House at 7th and Lombard Streets while conducting research for his book “The Philadelphia Negro”. This was located in the center of the Seventh Ward Negro Slum.

In 1896, he married Nina Gomer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and left his job at Wilberforce in Ohio to accept a one-year position in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I’m looking forward to reading this chapter as it’s personally extremely interesting to me.

I hope that I can write this well in my nineties!

This book is great. It’s as if he was sitting in the same room with you just chatting away.
