Anthony Ryan does not possess the gift of being able to instantly entice, but he weaves a yarn intriguing enough to want just a little more. Then you get just a little more than you expected. And so you want more. Will this whole book be one slow, steady build? Or is it just a matter of time before the clock strikes midnight. Alwyn is lucky to keep his life, but will hindsight make death seem the kinder result?

Not much to talk about yet, however it is nice to read a story so easy to follow. Anthony Ryan’s prose is simple and elegant, making the story very easily digestible. Alwyn keeps alluding to future events, and I’m not sure how to feel about it. I’m hoping his mini spoilers about the future are more like genie wishes, and that what he means is actually a twisted version of what will actually happen.
