Market share abroad often devastates foreign countries. For instance, even though Google and Meta only get a small portion of their online ad revenue from a country like South Africa, they undermine its local media by taking to 80% of the country’s total online advertising market. Even when the revenue from a poor country appears trivial to a US tech giant, it is a major problem for that country.
