I was thinking that this book doesn't make a lick of sense (and it doesn't), but maybe viewing it as a telenovela is the better perspective which will allow me to see it to the end.

I am grinning at this, a telenovela :) I read the first in this series because everyone seems to love it, but for me it read as kind of dated, and I found the romance cheesy. I didn't dislike it per se, but not sure it was enough to my taste to continue when there are so many other books out there, and your perspective on the 2nd one makes me think that's probably the right choice.

I didn't dislike it pe..."I agree, there's some dated aspects that take me out of the story. Plus, space opera doesn't always work for me. I am not likely to continue the series after this. Still up in the air if I will finish this one, but I am trying.
