So, clearly Maya has jealousy issues. I hate when jealousy is confused with being "competitive". Maya isn't in competition w/ Sabastian, more like she's jealous that he typically comes out on top or earns rewards before her. So she lashes out towards him & argues because she's too blind to admit her jealousy
