Honestly this is a good book
And it’s kinda addicting but I just can’t connect to it.
I have no love for anyone, and I’m just not invested in the story
I’m honestly considering DNF’ing it

“Is he… Is he at least treating you all right? Is he taking care of you?”
Tessa snorted a laugh. “He controls everything, Dex. What I eat. What I wear. Where I sleep.”
“Does he hurt you?”
“Physically? No. Mentally and emotionally?” She swallowed thickly as she fought off another bout of tears. “I’m not okay, Dex,” she finally whispered.

“Know that sometimes we must break to be forged into who we were meant to be,” she said, streaks of violet flickering in her eyes like lightning cutting through the flecks of gold. Then she bent and pressed her lips to Tessa’s brow. “You will break, Tessalyn. Make sure you get back up and take what is yours.”

He reached over and gripped her chin, drawing her eyes back to his. “I don’t like this, Tessa. I don’t like…” He trailed off when she seemed to stare right through him.
Well what do you want from her?!?
She was acting like herself, you told her to follow your commands and now that she is you don’t like it?! Make up your mind!

She wouldn’t survive this. It would break her.
And she didn’t burn when she broke.
She shattered, and the world shattered with her.

“She may be your Source, Theon, and you may control the girl, but I control you,”
I don’t like his father. At all.

Lightning flashed and thunder rumbled, the sound mixing with her screams, and as she sank to her knees, it started to pour. Big, cold drops splashed onto her face, into her hair. And gods, it felt amazing. Something wild and free. She was soaked in a matter of seconds, the beautiful dress she was wearing likely ruined.

When she began violently ripping pins from her hair and bringing strands with them, Theon finally moved forward. He slowly knelt down beside her and moved her hands away before beginning to gently remove the remaining hairpins. As he worked, the storm slowed. The downpour turned into a rhythmic rain, but it never stopped. It was a steady stream of something so cold, it numbed everything else inside of her.
Tessa stared at the flames flickering behind the glass of the fireplace. Oranges and reds and hottest blues dancing together, tangling and fighting, loving and hating. No, wait.
They weren’t doing any of that.
Her head tilted to the side as she watched them lick against the glass that contained them. That stifled the wildfire they longed to burn. Her hand drifted up to her throat, her fingers grazing where the choker had sat. The fire just wanted to be free to do what its nature demanded of it, but it was stuck inside a glass box. It was contained so that others could harness its energy and stay warm or admire its deadly beauty. To be used and snuffed out with the flick of a switch.
