the main reason this isn't working for me is that it's trying so hard to appear deep and philosophical on the human experience but at the same time the style is so detached and superficial. all the protagonist's supposedly deep thoughts are like: "humans like balloons. humans don't like to be sad. endings are sad." ok lol i thought we knew that already but the other characters react like she's socrates reincarnated.
