Only about 30 pages to go and I’m thinking it will end in a massive cliffhanger considering all the stuff that’s going on. I really like the story, but the writing is on the weaker side. There’s a lot of telling instead of showing and the way some things are coming to be like Donavan’s “escape plan” is very hard to believe. Look at the consequences! Did he actually think that would end up well?!

Done. I really enjoyed this but I just couldn’t believe the last 30% I know this is fiction but it still needs to be realistic. I’m retired USN and there’s no way that all that would have gone down that way. This is also one of those books where the characters are just pawns to tell the story. A great story thankfully with interesting zhree-human relations. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3.

Nothing is painted in black and white which makes character interaction interesting. And you can’t exactly root for anyone. I like the changes in Donovan, he’s starting to question things and is no longer the mindless soldier. Who named that poor kid Vercingetorix? Sounds like a dinosaur. Atomizers….that has an ominous ring to it.

I want to see how everything’s going to affect Donovan’s relationship with his dad, Max, and the rest of his crew. Also, I knew from the way the Hardening process is described that an exocel can’t simply be removed. The rebels are terribly ignorant on what they’re fighting! This is good and I’m really enjoying it!

Finally! JACKPOT! This is gonna be good. I’m gonna fly through this! It’s definitely more sci-fi than fantasy with a handful of words thrown at the reader with no definition given like erze and exocel for instance. But there’s enough context clues to figure out what those things are. I already like the setting and the modern language isn’t even bothering me. Military! Terrorists! An alien race! I’m excited!
