When I was at school - some time ago - we were taught in science that the correct method was to formulate a hypothesis and then conduct research which may or may not validate your theory. If not, reconsider and begin again. Whatever you do, do not proceed in such a way that it can only validate your hypothesis. To do such a thing only invalidates your work.

I haven't finished the book yet, I may change my mind.
