This is a reread but...Dean is described in the beginning of the book as having "too long chestnut hair," and it's mentioned/implied a few times that he has longer hair. Then, in chapter 12, it's said that his hair is "shorter, cropped close to his head," but no haircut has ever been mentioned or observed by another character.
