At this point, the book feels like it is deliberately making you distrust everyone a little. Saffyre seems fragile and intense, and it’s hard to know whether she is in danger, hiding something, or both. Owen also feels like the kind of character the story wants you to suspect, but he’s written in a way that makes him seem more lonely and awkward than truly threatening.
