why do i feel like this book is lowkey anti-doctor and anti-psychology…. the medical professionals in this book are comically inept and oblivious. and i’m a woman with pcos, i have dealt with my fair share of clueless doctors, but not to this level and not in this exaggerated way. idk how this book has such a high average rating.

yeah so the entire chapter of Cleo meeting with her doctor is so strange and surreal. it just doesn’t make sense and i’ve never encountered a doctor like that. it feels extremely overdramatic. the doctor diagnoses her with “prolonged grief disorder” but through all of my research the diagnosis requires well over a year of intense grief and it’s only been 7 months.

i’m finding so many scenarios and reactions to the MC’s grief to be wildly unrealistic. i’ve unfortunately known and been close to women who have lost babies have every stage and i’ve never witnessed interactions like this. i’ve never been to a baby shower where a woman who experienced child loss would be treated like a villain for expressing grief. this is just very strange.
