Chapter 1. Sam is a great character. He thinks about how humans have duplicity in their programs, then immediately puts on a character when he meets his old friend and the woman he doesn't understand that he is in love with. What the April - December jump that "time travel". Stereogram is an interesting metaphor for that past/present experience.
