“You’re a strong black woman”

Black women are always expected to be strong despite their circumstances and it’s tiring!!!!

Zora’s implication that the affair is her mother’s fault makes me think of a quote by Bonnie Burstow.

“Often father and daughter look down on mother (woman) together. They exchange meaningful glances when she misses a point. They agree that she is not bright as they are, cannot reason ad they do. This conclusion does not save the daughter from the mother’s fate”.

Woman are unfairly blamed even by woman.

The comments about how black women are viewed based on their age, body, and place they are residing in is so accurate!! I already like this book!! Still reading but wanted to say this loll!! Also I’m Jerome, writing in his journal lol
