Reggie smiled at me, and it was the first real one I had seen from him in a long time. "Bring your queen home."
I gave him a curt nod and shot into the sky, leaving the sound of thunder in my wake.

"Okay." I grinned, and to chase away the dark clouds that had formed in his eyes, I said, "So, how do you feel about being called my husband?"
His face lit up. "So much better. I never have to hear you call me your friend again."
😂
I threw my head back and laughed. When I looked at him, he was just staring at me, dumbstruck.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing," he whispered roughly. "I just love you."

"Sami." My heart lodged in my throat as another realization struck me. "You planned all this while you were gone?"
He looked at me as if I had grown horns. "Yes. If we cannot share the mark, I want the next best option. I want everyone who encounters us to know who we belong to. I want something that can protect you when I cannot. I thought I'd made my intentions very clear?"

"Dianna. Ayla. Akrai. My world. My life. My love. Will you marry me?"
"No."
His brows drew together so tightly I worried about his face freezing that way. My smile was so big it made my cheeks hurt. "I'm kidding. It's yes. It's a thousand times, yes."
"I hope that's a serious yes because we have an enormous problem now."
I gave him my hand, extending my finger. "It's a yes. Now give me my damned ring."

She headed up the stairs back to our safe house as I rubbed my brow and sighed deeply.

I watched how they worked together and smiled, resting my head on the soft furs. He had been looking for this for so damn long. Samkiel finally had his queen, and she was worthy of him in every way.
She would have torn the realms apart for him and hadn't even let death come between them.
I sunk deeper into my cot. Despite the pain of the burns, my body finally relaxed after months of constantly being on guard. Samkiel was alive, and I was finally safe.
"So what happens now?" I asked, not convinced he was right.Dianna shrugged, tapping her nails against her biceps. "We keep you locked up."
"Temporarily," Samkiel enunciated the word.
It truly was comical watching them. Dianna was one destructive force, and Samkiel was the one who kept her and everything together. They really were two sides of the same coin.
"Maybe send Samkiel in here to feed me.""It won't help. You'd still want to feed and fuck him, too."
A snort left my lips. "Who doesn't?"
Dianna's eyes lit up before she tipped her head back and laughed, a full, hearty sound that invited me to join her.
A smile tugged at my lips. "You've said you love him twice now. Have you guys..?"The atmosphere in the room changed, and the smile that suffused her face was one I had never seen from her before. It was a pure, radiant joy.
"Oh, even better." She lifted her hand and wiggled a single finger.
A ring shone there, shining even in the darkened cell. I recognized the stone and knew it was only formed from molten rock. I wondered if he had told her.
"No fucking way." I gasped and jumped to my feet. Ignoring the pain screaming through my every nerve, I stepped closer. "Does that mean what I think it does?"
She nodded and looked at the ring like it meant more than the world to her. "Yes, I lost our amata mark when I brought him back to life."
"What?" I exclaimed.
Dianna waved her hand. "It's a long story. I'll tell you later, but he decided this was the next best thing."
I shook my head, trying to process everything she just told me. "I knew you guys were fucking mates. No one else could handle him, honestly. The man has an ego."
She threw her head back and laughed, and I joined her. Warmth spread across my chest, knowing he had finally found the one thing he had been searching for all his life. A wave of sadness followed because I remembered placing a bet on it with Xavier before everything went to shit. I wished he was here because I just fucking missed him.
I smiled as I turned to face him fully and stepped down one step so we were eye to eye. I lifted my hand and lightly placed it against his cheek, his stubble rubbing against my palm. In the chaos of everything that had happened to us these last few months and both of us finally admitting what our hearts already knew, I realized I'd never told him. "Samkiel, I have loved you since we left Reggie's vortex, and sometimes, when I think about it, I think I loved you before that too."
Samkiel leaned forward, his lips pressing lightly against mine. It was not a kiss of want or need but of pure love. Even if my body was a hollow, aching thing, if no soul filled its darkness, and the only thing sustaining it was the beating of my heart, he owned every part of it, every part of me.
"You own me as well." He smiled against my lips, pulling back.
I swatted his arm, a small playful pat, and he grinned at me. "I keep forgetting you can read my mind. That's cheating."
He grinned and slipped his hand into mine, leading me upstairs.
"I'm still not used to this," I said, wiggling my fingers around his.
He grinned at me and winked. "It's okay. I'm a great teacher."
I laughed, the sound echoing off the walls and filling our new home.

"I can't leave him in pain," Samkiel protested.
"We won't, but you're no good to any of us if you sleep for a week from exhaustion," she snapped back. "Miska can make him some healing teas. It will be a slower process, but it will help."
Another sob tore from me, and they both spun toward me. "Gods, I've missed hearing you two bicker."
