IT JUST CLICKED!!!! This was a pleasant read with some symbols until now… I read a scene where the symbols all have woven together and the meaning has deepened. No spoilers but it is more than just an 19th century romance. At first I categorized it with others books of that era but now I see that it is much deeper in meaning. Our perception travels in line with Anados. We are learning alongside him about truths.

The poetry in this book is emotional & epic.
Speaking of a ballad where brothers prepare to give their lives to defeat a foe
“and our life we throw to our people back to live with a further store.
We leave it them that there be no lack
in the land where we live no more.
O well for him who break his dream
with the blow that ends the strife
and waking knows
the peace that flows
around the noise of life.”

So much better than the first time around. The pacing is great, the rich visuals are delicious and there are lots of things to mull over in between readings.

After two years and a good portion of the book through, I have decided to restart. The language is advanced. I remember liking it but also being often confused. I’ve spent a lot of time priming my mind with other books written around the same time, so as I’ve restarted, I can already tell I have improved my comprehension. I think I will enjoy it even more.
